Acoustic Blues Afternoon: Krystle Warren / Melisa Kelly Duo
A relaxing Saturday Blues afternoon featuring a double bill of outstanding singer-songwriters from home and abroad.
Going from a street musician with no formal education to a performer warming up the crowd for Rufus Wainwright, Erykah Badu and Jools Holland; who doesn't dream of such a career? Krystle Warren started out in music by playing pop and grunge (check YouTube for her version of "Eleanor Rigby") and soon followed her heart and started a musical career in the streets and squares of Kansas City, where she grew up. From there, she went to the streets of New York and Paris.
A contemporary troubadour with one heck of a voice, the multi-instrumentalist singer mixes acoustic American styles blending jazz, bluegrass, alt country and folk to create a unique and original style. With a honeyed voice that resembles that of Tracy Champman and Nina Simone, Krystle’s deep notes are rich as mahogany and the higher notes softer and soulful. A contemporary troubadour with one heck of a voice. “A gloriously original set." (The Guardian)
Opening the acoustic afternoon, singer Melisa Kelly and Dean Gardill (keys) play jazz & blues standards (Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Bessie Smith) and original songs. Expect glorious and powerfully soulful vocals.
Concert ends at 6pm
